The Nottingham Caribbean Carnival

Nottingham Caribbean Carnival

The Nottingham Caribbean Carnival was a spectacular event yesterday afternoon when it set off from the market square. The noise and colours were exactly what you’d hope for when watching such an event. The street sellers were peddling all sorts of funny souvenirs and trinkets,

and the excited little children sitting on the kerb stones craning their necks so as not to miss the first sight of the first float……

which I have to say was less of a float, and more of a one woman amazing blast to the senses!! It was fantastic!  Every colour you can imagine with huge bell shaped flowers that looked like they had been painted by fairies using glistening metallic paints. Flowers and feathers and streamers all added into the mix…it really was gorgeous!

The beautiful girl wearing the costume had such amazing poise; especially considering the weight of the costume and in the face of the strong winds and very fierce and lashing (fortunately very brief) rain. Following after her were dancers, drummers and even more creative and fun ‘people floats’, who danced and stamped to the throbbing music, blasting from speakers bigger than me!
