Wedding photography at Kelham Hall

the beautiful and romatic folly at Kelham HallYesterday, we went to Kelham Hall to photograph Vicky and Sean’s Special Day. Although it was cloudy and overcast and quite cool, the day stayed dry and we got outside for their photographs. I can’t wait for them to see the results! Kelham Hall is the most fabulous wedding venue and offer facilities for small intimate civil wedding partnerships and civil weddings like Vicky and Seans’ as well as very grand affairs, catering for up to 500 people. There is no problem for accommodating all these people in panoramic photographs, either, as the gardens have huge, sloping, perfectly trimmed lawns.

The present house (this is the third one -(the first two having been burnt down) has a wonderful architectural history, having been designed by the famous architect George Gilbert Scott, who also created St Pancras Station Hotel and Albert Memorial in London) and lends itself beautifully to interesting and romantic wedding photography. The family who commissioned and paid for the Lion share of the building work ultimately had to move across the road to Kelham House (what is now known as THe Red House, and which is also a fantastic place for wedding photography) We did all the groups outside on the main steps leading to the gardens and then moved into the gardens , where we did lots of fairy-tale wedding photographs. and then continued under the huge Weeping Willow tree and folly in the corner of the garden- a lovely secluded nook, perfect for romantic couple photographs. We then had a gentle walk through the gardens. using the grand house as a backdrop to make a spectacular assortment of wedding photographs for them to choose from for their wedding album.
Finally we ended up close to the little church which is on the same premises. It dates back to the 14th century and most recently was used by an order of Anglican monks who trained mend for missionary work. You can still be married in St Wilfreds church today. It has a beautiful warm feel about it and with all the grounds around as well as tennis courts, there are plenty of additional photo opportunities.
